Term dates and school holidays for every Australian state and territory, straight from the education departments, with a countdown in each state's own time and the states lined up side by side.

Start with the school calendar for your state or territory. Find the next break with a countdown for every state and territory, each using its own time zone. Browse term dates and school holiday periods year by year, including the first day back, or put states side by side to compare their calendars. Public holidays are grouped by state, and centrally published pupil-free days are shown separately. Every published date comes from an official page, with a link and the day it was read. Where holiday periods are worked out from published term boundaries, they are clearly marked so you can distinguish them from dates listed directly.

Each row represents a state or territory in local time, soonest first; flip digits show days until holidays, or holiday days remaining where holidays have begun. Status as at .

Each state and territory has a card using its own local time. It shows whether school is in or out today according to the published calendar, the next holiday period, and how many days remain until the next break or the first day back. Individual school calendars and pupil-free days may affect attendance.

Compare the states

Planning around relatives interstate, or a trip when the other states are still at school? These tables put every state and territory side by side.

From official calendars to checked tables

Dates are copied from education department and government pages, then checked independently a second time before publication. Nothing is estimated or carried forward from an earlier calendar. If a year is missing from the official information, it is identified as not yet published. Where a department supplies term boundaries without holiday periods, the gaps between terms are labelled as derived. If official pages disagree, the affected period is left out until the discrepancy is settled. Each source link lets you check the original information, which takes precedence over this site. This is an independent guide, not a government service.

Questions and answers

When are the next school holidays?

Find your state or territory on the countdown board above for the next published break and the time remaining before it starts. The local calendar matters when family members attend school in different states.

Why do school holiday dates differ across Australia?

Each state and territory runs its own government schools and publishes its own term calendar. Those calendars do not always line up, so a break can begin earlier in one place than another.

Where do the dates come from?

Term dates come from education departments, while public holiday dates come from the relevant government bodies. Source details link to the official pages and record when they were read; calculated gaps between terms carry a derived label.
